Emergency Health Services Act, E-6.6 S.A. 2008

This is the base law that governs Ambulances in Alberta, it replaced the 'Ambulance Services Act' when the Province took over Ambulance Services.

Emergency Health Services (Interim) Regulation, AR 76/2009

Regulation that was enacted to facilitate the take over by the Province.

Licensing and Ambulance Maintenance Regulation, AR 46/1999

This deals with the requirements of the inside of the ambulance and, obviously, regulation.

Staff, Vehicle and Equipment Regulation, AR 45/1999

This deals with the requirements of the inside of the ambulance and staff requirement, regulation.  For example, states that EMS personnel must be registered pursuant to the Health Disciplines Act.

Emergency Medical Aid Act, RSA 2000, c E-7

This is the 'Good Samaritan' act which states - subject to some restrictions - that people cannot be sued when they stop to assist at an accident or other emergency to provide 'First Aid' type care.

Health Disciplines Act, RSA 2000, c H-2

This is the legislation that Paramedics (including EMT-P, EMT-A, EMR) are required to be regulated under.  Eventually they shall move under the Health Professionals Act.

Emergency Medical Technicians Regulation, AR 48/1993

Regulation pursuant to the Health Disciplines Act that deals direct with the EMTs and their registration pursuant to the HDA and the Emergency Health Services Act

This statute sets out how various sections of laws in Alberta are - as noted - to be interpreted, e.g. the word 'may' is permission and the 'shall' is mandatory and directive.

Protection for Persons in Care Act, S.A. 2009, c. P-29

This statute was enacted after numerous complaints filed by various people in the courts, and media, with regard to alleged mistreatment suffered by mostly elderly people in extended care homes.
